⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ hace hoy un año SELF

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

this track is a fusion of the old testament. of seneca and montaigne. of the phaedo. of thich nhat hanh. of the laws of thermodynamics. i recreated a madrugá of drums and trumpets. a melodic line of celestial voices. and the verses of ecclesiastes preluding. the sententious torrent of my final words. before the bell tolls. you’re dying and you don’t know it. and i wanted you to know it now. to take your hand and feel. the rush of life.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

this song is inspired by morales’ easy reading. by galindo’s activism. by foucauldian theories. feminism and its battles. i built a military base of explosions and gunshots. an army of women chanting. and i dropped the bars from command. while tense strings and sirens were playing in the background. it wasn’t about empowerment. nor was it just politicizing. it is the dissident tactic of dodging any offensive. disarming the combat inside the dystopia.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

this track is inspired by vaknin’s theories. by klein’s ideas. by kohut. by nietzsche. by nirvana. i wanted a song without structure and started with a string sample. i pierced it with primal screams. with the strikes of a heavy beat. modulated myself into an omniscient god. one to throw truths in your face. it felt like collective suicide. but actually it was the opposite. an exercise in courage. the boldness that life gives you. when nothing’s lost anymore.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

this song was born from multitasking and exhaustion. from burnout and psychopolitics. from the texts of han. of fisher. of bifo. i set in motion a dissonant waltz. and started spitting the words. in the heat of a burning percussion. of a sharp constant high note. breathing in the mantra of the choir. and by singing it i wanted to drain myself out. to shut down this frantic rhythm and get off the ride. to collapse. to implode. to come back to life.

to write this song i turned to plato’s symposium. to buddha and aristotle. to christ and spinoza. to simone weil and adorno. i looped a three-note organ. added an urban jaleo. a compás por seguiriyas. the hook of a flamenco choir. and i sang over it all with pale sorrow and tenderness. i dismantled the greatest lie. love as supply. and from the ruins emerged compassion and care.

i wrote this song after reading the precious mirror samadhi. a few haikus and koans. thich nhat hanh. life is a dream. john of the cross and teresa. within their words i heard an enveloping pad. a synth loop ascending. a sunday service choir. a trance of harmonies and suddenly. silence. i woke up in an impossible place freed from everything. an unfathomable mystery in eternal suspension.

this song is inspired by my readings. by heidegger. by sartre. by carlo rovelli. buddhism. my midlife crisis. the arrow of time. quantum physics. i dreamt of a suited brass section. of a choir of altar boys. of a hip hop beat and a relentless clock in the background. i wanted to lift off the ground. off my existence. to calm my angst and yours. to urge myself and you to live by living this moment.

(Cómo morir)
Haz tu vida feliz

Time to be born
And a time to die, time to die
A time to plant
A time to pull out, to pull out
A time to kill
And a time to heal, time to heal
Time to break down
A time to build up, to build up
A time to gain
And a time to lose, time to lose
A time to weep
And a time to laugh, time to laugh
A time to embrace
A time to give up, to give up
A time to mourn
And a time to dance, time to dance

A time to tear
And a time to mend, time to mend
A time for silence
A time to speak, time to speak
A time to love
And a time to hate, time to hate
A time for war
And a time for peace, time for peace

(How to die)
Make your life happy by putting aside
Your anxiety of keeping it
No good thing benefits you
Unless your mind is ready to let go of it

(How to die)
Life cannot be free from worry
For anyone thinking too much ‘bout extending it
Think on this every day so
That you can leave this life with a mind in peace

(How to die)
Training for death
From cradle to grave
Those who have learned how to die
Have unlearned how to be slaves

(How to die)
I made it so that my day was
A small version of my whole lifetime
You can enjoy what you’ve given
But you must return it when time is up

Finally coming to Sheol
I am ready not to feel
Stop hoping fate can be altered by prayer
Impermanence
This is for real

I’ll be the cloud
Cloud in the rain
Cloud in the snow
Cloud in the river
I see no birth
I see no death
Cheerfully draining the cup in one breath

Gulp
Gulp
Gulp
Gulp
Gulp

(I have no power to stay)
Equilibrium
(I am coming to Death)
(I am leaving this world, no)
Energy going down
Entropy going up
Freedom

(Won’t lust, won’t cling)
Equilibrium
(Won’t fight, won’t fear)
Energy going down
Entropy going up
Freedom
